Quotes:                                                "The game  of life has two participants, spectators and players. Pick one."          _Unknown "Sometimes the people around you, won't understand your journey, they don't need to it's not for the." _Unknown "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young." _Henry Ford Growing up as a child my family encourage us to go outside and "play." This was a daily routine, I look forward to this everyday, not only was it encouraged at home,  but also at school during recess. What I considered play time to be when I was younger was going outside and being active, exploring the world around me, finding things to do. With the generation now I think that play time is logging on to social media, the use of computers, video games, telephones, iPod, and all other electronic devices that children

Relationship Reflection

The relationship with my family is important to me, but most importantly the relationship with my children. My children are my biggest motivation, going through a pregnancy where I lost a child, and never thought that I would be able to have any. Now I am the proud mother of two children is a blessing this is why I get up and do what I have to do to be successful. I cannot fail sometimes I do get discourage and want to give up because things get hard and stressful. But I think about them, and it pushes me to keep going and reaching my goals. I also have positive relationships with my parents, my mom has always been there for me she has seen me go through my ups and downs, and gave me all the support that I need. She always have encouraging words to motivate me, she is very spiritual and reminds me when times get tough and I may want to give up always pray and ask God for strength to get me through, and honestly I can say this gets me through. My father is very supportive also, even

Testing for Intelligence, that is the question?

Although many schools believe that a child's placement is based on how well or not so well they score on test. I believe that children should be tested to see how well they are progressing, but I do not solely believe this should determine where a child is placed. Some children are not test takers, and do not do well under pressure or during timed test. Some children excel throughout the school year, but score low on state required test. This does not necessarily mean the child does not know the information, but it could mean the child is not good at taking test. I truly believe if we have to assess children we should do it based on how they learn and are graded academically throughout the school year. I know some may disagree but this is just my thoughts. The school year is more relaxed and children for the most part can complete work at their  own pace, unlike state required test. I think this way would be best for all children. I think it would give them a better chance at b

Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

Natural Disaster: I remember in 1989 my city was hit by Hurricane Hugo, at that time I was 8 years old and can vividly remember everything that occurred. I remember my family wanting to evacuate, but we didn't because my grandfather refused to leave. There was no way that we would leave him behind, so I remember my family members packing up their belonging and heading to my grandparents house, it was about 20 of us in a three bedroom brick house, but we made it work we were determine to all stick together and pray for the best. Once the lights went out and we lit candles and a kerosene light. all I remember is bundling under covers with my face covered listening to the wind whistle and trees crackling. I remembered being so scared no one knew what the outcome would be once this storm passed over. There was the constant sound of the rain hitting the tin roof, loud rolls of thunders, popping sound of lightning. This stressor was something that I will never forget. After the sto

Child Development and Public Health

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is an unexplainable death of infants, usually occurs during sleep of a child less than one year of age (Wikipedia,2017). SIDS is important to me because I want to know the cause of this unexpected death that affects infants. It concerns me that no one can actually pinpoint what causes SIDS. I know their are ways to help reduce the risks, but what causes SIDS? I think it would be helpful to parents if we had an answer to this question. I read that the cause is unknown, but might be associated with defects in the brain that controls breathing and the arousal of sleep, low birth weight, respiratory infection, sleeping positions, siblings who were victims of SIDS, etc., but I could not find a known cause. Does anyone know the exact cause? New Zealand has the highest rates of SIDS, with the US right behind with the second highest. Babies are twice likely to die in New Zealand than in the US. The UK was the safest place for babies to sleep in the Western part

Childbirth In My Life and Around the World

My personal  birthing experience was scary and amazing. I was scared because I was about to give birth to a beautiful baby boy, but just a year and four months earlier I delivered a baby boy at 20 weeks who was still born. Having to go through the lost of my first child was a traumatic experience. I did not find out that the child that I thought would be a healthy baby boy would not survive until a day before I ended up delivering him still born. I lost my first child do to health reasons, he had spinal bifida and according to the doctors would be mentally "retarded" with no chance of survival if I carried him full term.  After going through this traumatic experience I never thought that I would be blessed to give birth to another child, but on September 23, 2005 I did. This was an amazing experience on at 7:30 p.m. that day I gave birth to a healthy baby boy 7 lbs 1 oz, 21 inches long. He was everything I imagine healthy with a full head of hair and ready to be loved. I

Codes of Ethics

Codes of Ethics To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with families we serve. Developing relationships with families is the key to having a successful student. It takes a village to work together in order for children to receive the best education possible. This ethic continues to be a part of my journey in the early childhood field because you have to build trusting relationships with family and keep the lines of communication open. We shall be familiar with the risk factors for and symptoms of child abuse and neglect, including physical, emotional, educational, and medical neglect. We shall know and follow state laws and community procedures that protect children against abuse and neglect. Our children expect us to protect them. We observe children everyday, we have to watch for the signs and listen to our children. They may be screaming for help so we cannot ignore anything. This will always be a part of my life as an educator beca
